Biography
Amy Griffin's recent appearances as "Cherry Who" in the original Broadway cast of "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" (and its return engagements) mark high points in her impressive acting career.
Amy has performed Off-Broadway in the long-running spoof "Forbidden Broadway", poignant comedy "Infertility: The Musical That's Hard to Conceive", and political satires "Newsical: We Distort, You Decide" and "Mr. President".
Amy's previous Dr. Seuss experience comes from her turn as "Mrs. Mayor" in the first national tour of "Seussical: The Musical", written by Aherns and Flaherty, and starring Cathy Rigby as the "Cat in the Hat". She reprised this role in a regional production of "Seussical" at the Fulton Opera House in 2004.
Amy performed the title role in seven prestigious regional productions of "Peter Pan", for which she has earned the Independent Theater Award and many, many, frequent flier miles.
Amy has performed in regional theaters and national tours all around the country. Some favorite roles/shows include:
- Originating the role of Annie in "The Legend" at the Mark Taper Forum, with Jasmine Guy and Hinton Battle
- "Oklahoma!", with Rue McClanahan. In this show, Amy won the Critics' Choice Award for her portrayal of Ado Annie
- Two productions of "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change", one as Woman #1 and one as Woman #2
- Annie Oakley in "Annie Get Your Gun"
- Celia in "As You Like It"
- Audrey in "Little Shop of Horrors"
- Miss Adelaide in "Guys and Dolls"
- Martha in "The Secret Garden"
- Hermia in "A Midsummer Night's Dream"
- "Hold me, Touch Me" and other characters in "The Producers"
- Lucy in "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown"
Amy's other NYC credits include the premeire of "A Time to be Born" at the NY Fringe Festival, Cole Porter's "Let's Face It", "Half a Sixpence", and many readings and showcases- most recently as Martha in a concert version of Lucy Simon's "The Secret Garden".
In addition to theater, Amy is also a professional voice-over artist, has worked on commercial and tv/film projects, and directs youth theater. She also provides private acting coaching.
Amy lives with her huband, Scott, and son, Nicholas, in beautiful Nyack, NY. She is a graduate of Northwestern University and a proud member of the Actors' Equity Association.
